《Impressions of the west lake 印象·西湖》是国际知名的大导演张艺谋导演的大型音乐剧，音乐由格莱美奖和金球奖获奖艺术家、世界音乐大师 Kitaro 喜多郎 谱写。两位大师级人物这种中西荟萃的配对实属一种罕见。另外，Kitaro 与 作曲家 Randy Miller 的第一次合作也碰撞出灿烂的音乐火花。其中还有一个亮点比较瞩目，原声带中还有中国的超人气歌星张靓颖的演唱。专辑唱片介绍中形容张靓颖为一个天赋的年轻演员，冉冉上升的中国流行明星，用其令人惊艳的嗓音为原声带同名歌曲《Impressions of the west lake 印象西湖雨》献唱。喜多郎当初在听到张靓颖的声音后，非常惊喜，称之为天籁。并从录制的多个版本中选中了张靓颖自己创作的英文版本歌词，决定在美国和日本发行的英文版本由张靓颖担当主唱。
